“下定义”三原则
“依据所供材料下定义”是语用题的一种常见类型，它主要考查两种能力：一是信息分析、鉴别、筛选、整合的能力，二是表达简明、连贯、得体的能力。
一、 定义必须是单句
定义必须以单句的形式呈现。不管命题人在题干中有没有明示，同学们给出的“定义”都必须是单句。由于命题人所提供的材料往往比较复杂，一般都由好几个单句（甚至复句）组成，同学们如果缺乏强烈的单句意识，极容易导致答题不得分。
既然定义必须是单句，在对材料进行分析、鉴别、筛选、整合的时候，最好首先找到一个“主干句”，然后再把其他有效材料变成这个“主干句”的修饰成分。
但是，并不是所有的材料都有“主干句”。碰到这种情况，就必须从材料中筛选出能够充当“主干句”的宾语中心词。（主语、谓语则不必找。主语必定是“定义”的对象，谓语必定是“是”。）
例1将下面关于“修辞”的阐述，组合成一句话，给“修辞”下个定义。可适当增删词语。（45个字以内）
①这是一种活动。
②这种活动的展开要依据题旨，也要依据情境。
③这种活动与写作者有关，也与说话者有关。
④它用在写作者和说话者要表达的内容上。
⑤它要运用到各种语文材料，也要运用到各种表现手法。
⑥它的表现要恰当。
解析：命题人提供了六个句子，其中②句、③句和⑤句还是复句。要组成一个单句给“修辞”下定义，首先可以看看能不能从材料中找到一个“主干句”，经分析发现①句是比较合适的。接下来再对其余五句进行“整合”，使之全部变成“活动”的修饰成分。

解析：命题人提供的材料共四句话，而这四句话没有一句可以充当“主干句”。要用一个单句给“个人存款实名制”下定义，就必须考虑主谓宾的问题。主语当然是“个人存款实名制”，谓语是“是”，宾语就成了解题的核心问题。经过分析可以发现，宾语应该是第三句中的“储蓄管理制度”。这样，这个定义的“主干句”就形成了：“个人存款实名制是一种……储蓄管理制度。”

二、 定义的内容必须是本质属性
定义所包含的必须是也只能是该事物的本质属性。命题人提供的材料常常比较芜杂，需要同学们鉴别和筛选，把最能体现本质属性的材料筛选出来。
例3对下列文字进行筛选和组合，给“图书目录”下一个定义。
①图书目录是一种工具书。
②图书目录是能够帮助人们打开知识宝库的钥匙。
③图书目录的用途是供人们查找的。
④图书目录分为“簿式书目”和“卡片式书目”等。
⑤图书目录是按照一定顺序编写的。
⑥图书目录记录书名、作者、出版和收藏情况。
解析：命题人提供了六句话，但第②句讲的是作用，第④句讲的是分类，均非图书目录的本质属性，组合时应予剔除。
参考答案： 图书目录是记录书名、作者、出版和收藏情况，按照一定顺序编排，供人们查找的工具书。
例4阅读材料，请用一个单句，为“厄尔尼诺”下一个科学的定义。

毕竟，我们浙江都是沿海城市，亚文化多元化。小时候去电玩厅玩玩类似于太鼓达人的街机，那时候好像只FC了《夏天的风》，周杰伦作的曲子，后来在节奏大师玩到差点泪目。
初中后就没去玩街机了，不知道大学后是否还能接触街机。总之我还想玩玩那些没玩过的街机。

03年家里就有电脑了，那时的128MB DDR1内存还记忆犹新，没有网络的我，把GBA模拟器拷贝到电脑上，几十个游戏吧。依稀记得有魂斗罗、口袋妖怪、模拟人生、电梯大战。后来在书店慢慢开始接触编程的书籍，于是就不玩这类游戏了。

游戏比小说更加真实，我看小说都会入戏，游戏就更会这样了。
玩完游戏的怅然若失感太压抑了，也就只有音游例外吧。玩游戏时想想其他孩子，贫困山区的孩子们根本接触不到这些只能在城里看到东西，他们只有读书，一直读书。少打音游多读书这个梗不是虚的，过度沉溺游戏带来的后果便是无法静下心来学习，我们这边人深有体会。救救垮掉的这一代00后，说的就是我们城里人吧。
