《莫泊桑短篇小说集》这本书我已经阅读过很多次了，第一次在书店看到这本书，认为是名人的作品，觉得有必要读一读。看了之后就被深深地吸引了。这本书，没有太过于华丽的辞藻和语句，十分平淡，甚至有些庸俗，但也正因为如此，它读起来才更平易近人，更加现实和亲切，十分有趣。我很认真地阅读，从中体会作者的写作方法。
又一次读，我自以为已经把这本书读透了，但老师说：“体现这本书的价值的是它的语言特点和人物描写的手法，要再一次去细细地体会，你一定会发现新的东西。”显然，我以前只关注了它的语言方面的特殊之处和故事的趣味，并没有看它的人物表现的手法。我又从头开始，去品读书的巧妙的描写手法，果然收获了以前没有发现的东西。
莫泊桑的人物描写可谓是出神入化，它的小说基本上都是写资产阶级小市民、小职员的日常生活，原来十分平淡无趣的素材，经过他的妙笔，变得津津有味。他运用大量的语言描写和心理描写，把人物刻画的活灵活现，人物的一举一动都若电影片一样，不知不觉地浮现在读者的脑海中，栩栩如生。因此才让读者读的`有趣。
由于莫泊桑亲自经历过普法战争，对战争的见闻十分丰富，所以他大部分作品都是以普法战争为背景的。想《羊脂球》，就是描写当时法国一行人逃亡的事件。书中对那一行人各自的性格、神态描写十分细致又生动有趣，比喻的修辞手法应用的也和巧妙。很沉重地体现出了羊脂球的痛苦无奈和那一行人的卑鄙、忘恩负义。《两个朋友》也是以普法战争为背景，这两个人的正义、爱国之心让人十分敬佩，作者运用了许多反面人物来衬托出他们的正直。
这些短篇小说大都批判了人性的贪婪、罪恶与黑暗，指责了资本主义社会的卑贱和战争给人民带来的痛苦。但也有正义和善良的人，他们为了祖国献身，为了坚贞的爱情抛弃一切。它们让我体会到了很多。让我明白了这个社会确实存在一些黑暗的东西，但只要我们做好自己，做一个正直善良的人，我们感受到的社会就是快乐的，美好的。这就是《莫泊桑短篇小说集》带给我的。
