第二天早上，我迫不及待地把这个谜团告诉了爸爸。爸爸神秘地说：“先不告诉你，我们来做一个小‘实验’。”爸爸先让我来到他的电脑前，然后开启了音箱，因为我离音箱只有30来厘米的距离，所以觉得声音特响；随后他又在我和音箱之间放了一块大大板，真奇妙，声音一下子小了很多，噢！这板……起到了隔音的作用，我恍然大悟！这时老爸又说，其实我们防止噪声有很多的方法，接着只见他拿来两团棉花让我把耳朵塞上，然后对我讲话。经过反复实验，我发现当耳朵塞上棉花时，就不太听得清别人讲话了。难道是棉花阻挡了声音的传播吗？怀着好奇心，我上网查找原因，知道了棉花的确具有良好的吸音降噪减音效果，材料内部充满细小空隙，多孔结构大量吸收射入的声波能量，对声波起到衰减作用，吸音效果极佳，吸声系数高达0。85，是吸音降噪减震材料的高性能产品。爸爸说：“我们屋子的墙壁中间就有着棉花，我们把它叫做‘隔音棉’，是用来减少噪音的，所以不大声说话就听不清楚啦。”
我觉得隔音棉是个好东西，可减少噪音的方法就不会只有一种吧！正巧住在马路边的奶奶说汽车喇叭、刹车声，以及建筑工地的声音吵得她晚上总是睡不着，我们便给她出主意。后来，我想到了加厚窗帘的办法，爸爸想到了装双层玻璃的办法，对奶奶的住房进行了改造，果然使影响奶奶的噪音变小了不少。奶奶笑着说：“看来科学真是个好东西呢！”
